Hero is the story of Korea’s top reporters and ordinary citizens fighting against the society elite’s abuse of power. Jin Do Hyuk is a clever and talented reporter who ends up living a life of recklessness and despair when the woman he loved dies. Actually, the episode 11 subs have over a hundred bad characters. I figured out what the problem is: Windows is replacing the character ` with a special Windows only control character, the character ‘ is sometimes replaced as well, and diaereses are sometimes replaced with another special character. The Episode 12 subs are clean.
So, basically, one of your people is accidentally changing the character encoding from ASCII to a special Windows character set that *looks* like ASCII to anyone running Windows. In fact, the srt file format requires ASCII. So make certain that everyone sets their encoding to ASCII when editing the subs.
I saw the same problem years ago when 8thSin and I were subbing Saiyuuki. It’s easy to do because it’s undetectable to the person doing it.
@ pokute – I’ll pass this information on to the co-ordinators.
So am I understanding correctly that it could have something to do with formatting of certain punctuation marks? For example, an ellipsis (a set of dots indicating such as an omission) has a short-cut placement of Ö and an apostrophe uses í. In ep11 & 13 both are used while in 12 neither appear. Is this what you mean?
